RULES FOR MONOPOLY IN A STRATIFIED SOCIETY
Players - Four groups of individuals, representing four classes in US society, play the game. At each board:
If you have 4 Players...
1 bourgeois, 1 petite-bourgeois, 1 proletariat, and 1 lumpen-proletariat
If you have 5 Players...
1 bourgeois, 1 petite-bourgeois, 2 proletariat, and 1 lumpen-proletariat
If you have 6 Players...
1 bourgeois, 1 petite-bourgeois, 2 proletariat, and 2 lumpen-proletariat
If you have 7 Players...
1 bourgeois, 1 petite-bourgeois, 3 proletariat, and 2 lumpen-proletariat
If you have 8 Players...
1 bourgeois, 1 petite-bourgeois, 3 proletariat, and 3 lumpen-proletariat
Order of Play - Turns are taken in descending order, beginning with the Bourgeoisie Player.
Inheritance - Each group begins the game with the following amounts of money:
Bourgeoisie: $5000
Petite- Bourgeoisie: $1500
Proletariat: $850
Lumpen-Proletariat: $500
Salaries- As you pass “Go,” players will collect their salaries. Salaries are as follows:
Bourgeoisie: $300
Petite- Bourgeoisie: $200
Proletariat: $150
Lumpen-Proletariat: $100
Income Tax - Any class landing on the income tax square must pay $200 each time; there is no option of paying 10%.
Go to Jail - Different rules apply for each class when being instructed to go to jail:
Bourgeoisie
Upon receiving instructions to go to jail, you will immediately roll the dice. If you roll an even number, you do not go to jail. If you roll an odd number, you go to jail.
If you are sent to jail, you will roll the dice. If your second roll is greater than 7, you are released from jail. If less than 7, you remain in jail until you roll a number greater than 7 or pay $50 for release.
Petite- Bourgeoisie
Upon receiving instructions to go to jail, you will immediately roll the dice. If you roll pairs, you do not go to jail.
If you are sent to jail, you may either roll the dice until you roll a number greater than 7 or pay $50 to be released.
Proletariat
Go directly to jail.
If you are sent to jail, you may either roll the dice until you roll pairs or pay $50 to be released.
Lumpen-Proletariat
Go directly to jail.
If you are sent to jail, you must roll pairs to get out. You MAY NOT post bail, even if you have the available funds.
The Bank - The Upper class is the bank.
